The Herchel Smith Graduate Exchange Scholar Program supports short-term (8-week) research exchanges between Harvard University and the University of Cambridge. Each year, up to two graduate fellows from each institution are awarded a stipend to cover travel, lodging, and related expenses while working in a partner university’s lab. The Exchange is open to Herchel Smith Fellows at both schools, and aims to foster collaboration, provide specialized training, or access unique resources.

Applicants should submit a CV, a 1-page project proposal, and support letters from both their thesis advisor and the host lab. Rolling applications are encouraged, with priority for submissions before January 15, 2026; summer rotations are recommended. Selected scholars will be chosen by a faculty advisory committee. For details and to apply, contact <hils@fas.harvard.edu>.
